How does Kudos access my credit score?Updated 7 hours ago
Kudos uses Spinwheel, a secure third-party service, to sync your credit score through a soft inquiry that doesn't impact your credit. This process requires your consent and may need additional verification steps.
What Information Is Required?
Spinwheel first attempts to verify your identity using:
- Birthdate
- Phone number
- Account data
If this initial soft match is unsuccessful, you'll be prompted to complete Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA), which may request the last 4 digits of your SSN.
Important: Providing additional information is completely optional. You can skip credit score syncing at any time.
How Does This Compare to Other Services?
Unlike services like Credit Karma that require your address and last 4 digits of your SSN upfront with no option to skip, Kudos only requests additional information when the initial verification doesn't work. You're never required to proceed if you prefer not to share this information.
Does Kudos Store My SSN?
No. SSNs are used only for identity verification through Spinwheel and are immediately discarded. Kudos does not save or store Social Security Numbers.
Why Does the Fine Print Mention Authorization?
The authorization language is standard regulatory language required by consumer reporting regulations. Even soft credit pulls (which don't impact your score) require your explicit written consent before any consumer reporting agency can be contacted.
