Discover to Capital One: What Kudos Users Need to Know
Capital One has acquired Discover and is migrating Discover cardholders onto the Capital One servicing platform in batches through the end of 2026. Here's what this means for your Kudos account and how to handle your Discover card during the transition.
Do I need to do anything right now?
In most cases, no. If you already have a Discover card connected in Kudos, your existing connection will keep working as-is. You'll keep seeing your transactions and tracking your benefits normally, and you don't need to remove or reconnect anything unless you're prompted to.
When should I take action?
There are two situations where you'll want to do something:
1. You're prompted to reconnect your account in Kudos
If Plaid (our secure connection provider) ever asks you to reconnect your Discover card's login, go ahead and follow the prompt. Once your account has transitioned to Capital One's platform, reconnecting will automatically route you through the correct login, no need to manually pick Discover or Capital One yourself.
How to reconnect:
Go to your Wallet in the Kudos app
Find the affected card and tap Edit
Select Connect Account
Follow the prompts to log in
If you run into issues, you can also delete the existing connection and reconnect it from scratch:
Go to your Wallet
Tap Edit on the card
Tap the dropdown next to your connected account and select Delete
Reconnect the account following the steps above
2. You're a new Kudos user adding a Discover card
If you're adding a Discover card to Kudos for the first time, you'll see two versions of some Discover cards in our card search:
The standard card (e.g., "Discover it® Cash Back"): choose this if your account has already transitioned to Capital One's servicing platform. You'll have received a notice from Capital One or Discover confirming your transition.
The "(Legacy Discover)" version: choose this if your account has not transitioned yet. This keeps you connected through Discover's original login until your transition happens.
Not sure which applies to you? Check for a transition notice from Discover or Capital One in your email or when logging into your Discover account directly. If you haven't received one yet, add the Legacy Discover version for now.
Will my card's rewards or benefits change?
No. Your card's rewards structure, benefits, and terms remain the same through this transition. This is purely a change to the backend servicing platform and login process, not a change to your card itself.
Why does my card show "Capital One" as the issuer even though I still log in through Discover?
This is expected in some cases. Behind the scenes, Kudos may show a card as being on the Capital One issuer even if your personal account hasn't transitioned yet and you still log in through Discover. This doesn't affect your tracking or benefits, it's simply preparing for when your account transitions.
