Why can't I connect my Citi or Best Buy card?

Some Citi and Best Buy (Citi Retail Services) connections are failing in Plaid right now. Here's what's happening and a fix that's worked for members who already linked the card to another app.

Kudos uses Plaid to securely connect your bank and credit card accounts. Some members are running into errors when connecting Citi cards, including the Best Buy credit card, which is managed through Citi Retail Services. This isn't a problem with your account or with Kudos.

What you might see

  • Citi asks you to sign in several times in a row, then shows an error.

  • You sign in, but never see the screen where you choose which cards to share.

  • Plaid gets to the last step, says your account is already connected, then fails and offers to email you when it's fixed.

Why it's happening

Plaid has confirmed a known issue with new Citi connections. Fixing it requires a change on Citi's side, so there's no estimated fix date yet. We're following the issue with Plaid and will update this article when it's resolved.

Try this first: disconnect other apps from Citi

If your Citi or Best Buy card is already connected to another app that uses Plaid, like Copilot, Monarch, or a budgeting app, that existing connection may be blocking the new one. Members who removed the other app's access and then connected Kudos were able to link right away.

  1. Sign in to Citi in your browser. For a Best Buy card, sign in at citiretailservices.citibankonline.com. For other Citi cards, use citi.com.

  2. Find the settings for connected apps or third-party access, usually under your profile or security settings.

  3. Remove the other app's access to your account.

  4. Go back to Kudos and connect your card again. For a Best Buy card, search for "Best Buy" in Plaid and select Best Buy - Citi Card, not the regular Citi option.

Removing access means the other app will stop syncing that card. Once Kudos is connected, you can try reconnecting the other app if you still use it.

If it still won't connect

  • Add the card to your Kudos Wallet without connecting it. Search for your card under + Add card and save it. Kudos can still include it in card recommendations at checkout, even though its transactions won't sync.

  • Get notified by Plaid. If Plaid shows a "Get notified when it's fixed" option, select it so you'll hear when the connection is working again.

  • Message our support team. Let us know which card you're connecting and what you saw, and we'll follow up when the issue is fixed.
