Annual Fees: Where to See Them and How to Decide if a Card Is Worth Keeping

See each card's annual fee in your Kudos wallet, weigh it against the credits you've actually used, and know what to do before your renewal date.

Kudos shows the annual fee for every card in your wallet, so you can see what each card costs you in one place instead of hunting through statements.

Paired with the Benefits Tracker, that gives you both halves of the question worth asking once a year: what is this card costing me, and what am I actually getting back?

Where to Find Your Annual Fees

On the web: Go to your wallet. Each card in the list shows its annual fee.

On mobile: Open the Kudos app and go to your wallet to see the same view.

If a fee looks wrong or is missing for one of your cards, email us at support@joinkudos.com with the card name and we'll get it corrected.

Does Kudos Remind Me Before My Annual Fee Posts?

Not yet. Kudos doesn't currently send a notification ahead of your renewal date. Timely alerts for benefits and renewals are on the way, and this article will be updated when they ship.

In the meantime, your card's annual fee is always visible in your wallet, and your issuer will show the exact renewal date in your account. Many people set a calendar reminder a month ahead so there's time to decide before the fee posts.

Deciding Whether a Card Is Worth Its Fee

Open the Benefits Tracker and filter to the card you're evaluating. Each card gets its own view showing what benefits and credits it carries and which ones you've used.

Then compare:

  • What you've actually used. Not what the card offers on paper. A $200 travel credit you never touched isn't worth $200 to you.

  • What you'd realistically use next year. If your travel patterns changed, last year's numbers may not predict next year's.

  • Benefits that don't show as dollars. Lounge access, primary rental car coverage, and travel protections have real value that won't appear as a credit you redeemed.

  • The fee itself. Visible on the card in your wallet.

If the card is close to breaking even, it's worth checking whether there are credits you could still use before the renewal date.

Your Options Before the Fee Posts

All of these are handled by your card issuer, not by Kudos:

  • Keep it. If the credits and benefits you use exceed the fee, there's nothing to do.

  • Ask about a retention offer. Issuers sometimes offer statement credits or bonus points to keep you. Call the number on the back of your card and ask what's available on your account.

  • Downgrade. Many premium cards have a no-fee or lower-fee version in the same family. Downgrading usually keeps your account history intact, which matters for your credit age.

  • Cancel. Worth understanding the tradeoffs first, including the effect on your average account age and total available credit.

Most issuers will refund an annual fee if you close or downgrade within a short window after it posts, often 30 days, though this varies. Check with your issuer.

A Note on Credits That Reset on Your Cardmember Year

Some card credits reset on the calendar year, and others reset on your cardmember year, which starts on your account anniversary rather than in January.

If a credit in your Benefits Tracker looks unused but you're confident you've spent against it, that difference is often the reason. Email us at support@joinkudos.com with the card and the credit before you make a keep-or-cancel decision based on it, and we'll take a look at your account.
